- John Stones received an England call-up
- He suffered an injury before their clash with Uruguay
- An update on the defender’s current fitness has been given
News has emerged on whether John Stones will be fit in time to feature for England against Japan next Tuesday night.
John Stones has not played much for Manchester City this season. In fact, he has only made 15 appearances in all competitions.
This is partly due to the fact he is no longer a first choice player in his position. However, his injury record is another factor to consider.
Stones was out with a thigh problem at the beginning of December and this kept him out of action for two months.
Since then, he has not even made an appearance in the Premier League. Therefore, he will have been delighted to be selected by Thomas Tuchel to play in England’s March fixtures.
John Stones returns to Man City after suffering injury setback
Unfortunately, Stones missed England’s match against Uruguay due to picking up an injury and it seems this is more than just a minor issue.
According to Jack Gaughan, the centre-back has returned to Man City in order to receive treatment for his calf problem.
This means Stones will miss England’s friendly with Japan on Tuesday and it remains to be seen whether this injury could keep him out for even longer.
Stones could lose his chance to start Man City’s next match
Man City’s next fixture is an FA Cup tie against Liverpool and Stones would certainly have been in contention to start.
The 31-year-old captained the Citizens in their fifth round clash against Newcastle, so it would make sense for him to be selected again in the competition.
Right now, it is not clear when Stones will return, but the Easter Saturday match-up could be too soon, which is a real blow for one of City’s unluckiest players.
