- Inter Milan defender is attracting strong Premier League interest
- Man City are reportedly among the clubs circling the defender
- Inter are preparing for renewal talks to avoid a sale
Manchester City could face a setback in their search for a right-back this summer, with Inter hoping to tie down their target to a new deal.
City are yet to find a long-term replacement for Kyle Walker. The Englishman left for AC Milan in 2025, following which both Matheus Nunes and Rico Lewis have helped to cover the right-back spot.
Nunes has done a great job despite primarily being a midfielder. Lewis was also hailed for his performances, but Guardiola clearly stated that the 21-year-old was just a proxy in the back.
Man City haven’t been ignoring the problem. They are monitoring Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries’ situation. However, Inter have different plans for the defender as renewal talks are on the table.
Inter Milan set to offer a new contract to Denzel Dumfries
Despite their interests, City are in for a tough ride as L’interista reports that Inter will be offering the Dutchman a new contract.
The Serie A outfit is planning on a new £4.36m a year deal that will run until 2029. Dumfries’ current contract will expire in 2028.
However, the main task of the new contract is to remove the £21.78m release clause. It’s not a big number for top Premier League outfits as Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United are all following the situation.
Apart from Inter, City will have to fend off both Liverpool and Manchester United to secure their long-term Kyle Walker replacement.
Finances could play a big role
Premier League clubs can also offer bigger contracts than their Serie A counterparts. This might be an important factor in the Dutchman’s final decision.
Dumfries’ personal preference is not yet clear, but Premier League interest could still become significant if Inter fail to get a new deal over the line.
