  • Real Madrid beat Man City twice in the Champions League last 16 stage
  • The Citizens already trailed by three goals after the first leg
  • Rodri believes a comeback was possible until an incident involving Bernardo Silva

Manchester City met their match against Real Madrid in the Champions League, but Rodri believes the tie was changed by one incident.

The Carabao Cup has been added to Manchester City’s trophy cabinet. However, there is no chance of a second Champions League triumph for the Sky Blues this season.

Man City were absolutely thumped by Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and the second leg fixture also ended in a defeat.

However, Rodri believes Man City actually had a chance to win the tie until an incident which changed everything during the first half.

Rodri says Man City could have made a comeback against Real Madrid

Much of the talk around Man City today has been about Rodri pushing for a Real Madrid move, but he has also taken the time to discuss his team’s defeat in the Champions League.

According to Rodri, Man City could have recovered the three-goal deficit against the La Liga club, but Bernardo Silva’s red card destroyed their chances.

He told Radioestadio Noche: “I think we could have turned it around [vs Real Madrid] if it weren’t for the red card.”

In truth, Man City had already conceded a massive chance for Federico Valverde to open the scoring, before Silva was sent off.

On top of this, Real Madrid would have still been awarded a penalty for a handball offence, even if Silva had remained on the pitch.

Rodri could switch Man City for Real Madrid

Man City have one piece of silverware secured this season and there is still a chance to win more, but Real Madrid are chasing Europe’s ultimate prize.

Rodri would love to get his hands on the Champions League trophy again and this could be one of the factors influencing his current thinking.

The Spain international has made it clear that he welcomes the prospect of a move to Real Madrid and he could look to push for a move there this summer.
