  • Matheus Nunes has been playing well as a right-back
  • He is outperforming Premier League full-backs in two areas
  • These areas are related to passing and winning duels

Matheus Nunes is having a really strong season at Manchester City and he leads the way in two areas among full-backs in the Premier League.

Initially, Matheus Nunes began playing as a right-back at Manchester City due to a lack of available players in the position.

However, it is hard to see the 27-year-old moving back into midfield next season, considering how well is playing out wide.

In his most recent appearance, Nunes assisted Nico O’Reilly in the Carabao Cup final and he has been pretty impressive in the Premier League too.

Matheus Nunes tops two Premier League stats

According to Data MB, Nunes has completed more passes per 90 minutes than any other full-back in the Premier League.

Also, he is leading the way for defensive duels won as a percentage, having won three-quarters of his challenges.

Rayan Ait Nouri is another Man City player who completes a lot of passes each game, although he is not as strong on the duel winning front.

Man City should continue playing Nunes as a right-back next season

There has been a lot of speculation about which right-backs Man City are considering ahead of the summer transfer window and one new signing in the position is definitely needed.

That should probably be the maximum number though, as it makes sense to keep on playing Nunes in his current role.

The Portguguese star has shown he is good enough to be starting on a weekly basis, so there is no need to change a winning formula.
