- Erling Haaland gave a pre-match speech on Sunday
- He emphasised one key message
- His teammates listened and responded with a victory
Erling Haaland delivered a last minute team talk in Manchester City’s pre-match huddle before the Carabao Cup final and he had one key message to share.
For Manchester City, winning the Carabao Cup was about so much more than lifting a trophy. Indeed, one of the most important aspects of the triumph was that it proved the club’s doubters wrong.
The Citizens have drawn their two most recent Premier League matches and were defeated in both legs of their Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid.
Many had written them off ahead of the final at Wembley, especially since Arsenal were the team standing in the way of their first major trophy in almost two years.
However, Man City dusted themselves off and secured a 2-0 victory, which was the perfect response after a tough few weeks.
Erling Haaland told Man City to bounce back before Carabao Cup final
Sometimes, a leader in the squad will tell his teammates to forget about what has happened previously and look forwards instead.
Despite this, Erling Haaland took a different approach, using Man City’s past failures to motivate them to perform in the final.
“Let’s show the world we’re still here,” the Norwegian told his team in a clip which was captured by Sky Sports.
“Everyone, from the first second. Together guys, let’s show the world! Let’s have it, let’s bounce back, let’s bounce back strong! Everyone.”
Man City must continue to show resilience
Haaland’s inspiring words were certainly taken to heart, as Man City delivered an excellent performance to overcome Arsenal.
Every single player in a sky blue shirt did his job, from James Trafford’s vital first half saves, to Nico O’Reilly’s double later on.
And now, Man City need to show once again that they can stand tall and persevere in the face of doubt.
Arsenal may be favoured in the Premier League title race, but there is still a chance for City to catch up. The Citizens have bounced back and now they must show their ability to build on this and keep on fighting until the end of the season.
