Pep Guardiola explains why Carabao Cup final is a ‘big moment’ for Man City

Manchester City are in the Carabao Cup final and Pep Guardiola believes it is a great opportunity for his team due to one key reason.

Once upon a time, the Carabao Cup was just one of many trophies Manchester City were attempting to win. However, like last season, the current campaign has been tricky.

Therefore, this could be Man City’s best shot at collecting silverware this season, making a victory all the more important.

City are still in the FA Cup of course and the Premier League is not over yet, but winning the League Cup is less of a challenge because the Sky Blues are already in the final.

Pep Guardiola speaks about Man City’s ‘big moment’ this weekend

For Pep Guardiola, any final is a huge game, even for a manager who had led his team to the final stage of so many competitions.

It is also important because Man City have had their rough patches this season and there is no guarantee of reaching another final before the season ends.

Guardiola told Man City: “We have got to Wembley 22 times in 10 years, it’s an honour and a big challenge. For the team it’s a big moment.

“[When] we reach the final, no matter the competition, it’s always tough. We see the level in Europe, other leagues and any competition.

“To be there we have to see it as a big opportunity because we never know when it will happen again.”

Man City could still reach the FA Cup final

Whether Guardiola makes another final or not, he will want his team to win the Carabao Cup. Still, the prospect of not playing in another makes a victory even more of a necessity.

Man City still have an opportunity to reach the FA Cup final, with two more wins required in order to get there. However, securing a trophy at the first possible opportunity is always going to be the most desirable option.

On Sunday, there will be no thought given to what might happen in the FA Cup or Premier League. Every single one of those Man City players will only be thinking about the Carabao Cup and what is required to bring it back to the Eithad Stadium.
