Pep Guardiola brands Manchester City an ‘extraordinary team’ for reaching Carabao Cup final

Pep Guardiola has given a very honest assessment of Manchester City ahead of Sunday’s highly anticipated fixture against Arsenal.

Manchester City’s season is unlikely to hit the heights their fans were hoping for, due to some poor results in March.

The Citizens were put to the sword against Real Madrid, exiting the Champions League at the round of 16 stage.

This disappointment has extended to the Premier League, with Man City now trailing Arsenal by nine points, making a comeback very much against the odds.

However, City still have the chance to win a trophy and it is for this reason that Pep Guardiola has been full of praise for his team.

Pep Guardiola calls Manchester City extraordinary

Man City’s season has been a mixed bag up to this point and Guardiola has made it no secret that his team are lacking something.

Despite this, the manager has also dished out a lot of praise on his team for their achievements this season, even going as far as calling them ‘extraordinary’.

Guardiola told Beanyman Sports: “In many things we are just underneath. It will flourish. I have the feeling that it’s close. Other things we need a little bit more time so the players realise what we need to be a strong team in many, many departments. Most of the things we are close.

“In many aspects we are an extraordinary team, otherwise we would not be in the top eight in the Champions League, second in the Premier League, Carabao Cup final, FA Cup quarter-finals.”

He added: “I know it [what is missing]. I will not tell you. The players know it.”

Guardiola says Man City are having a ‘decent’ season

According to Guardiola, Man City have been far from perfect, particularly over the past couple of months.

Regardless of this, he is still relatively happy with the season City are having as well as what they were unable to accomplish during the previous campaign.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but this season was more than decent,” Guardiola continued.

“Of course if you define the season for titles, obviously we need it. But last season we won the Community Shield, in the final of the FA Cup.

“I’d say two or three months was not good, but many things happened that was not the team we should be. This season, yes, we have been most of the time a team – not being perfect because sometimes happens – that’s good.”

Most Man City fans will likely define the season by trophies won, so Guardiola could really do with leading his team to victory.
