Bernardo Silva details why Manchester City were beaten by Real Madrid

Manchester City were battered 3-0 by Real Madrid and Bernardo Silva has attempted to explain what went wrong for his team.

It is not often Manchester City lose a game of football, but this is what happened on Wednesday night when Pep Guardiola led his team to Madrid.

The hosts took the lead after 20 minutes and this got the crowd going, which made the Bernabeu a tough place to play.

Those fans who made the journey from Manchester did their best to get the players going, but in the end Real Madrid secured a big win.

Bernardo Silva reveals why Man City lost to Real Madrid

According to Bernardo Silva, Man City were caught out by Real Madrid’s opening goal and completely lost control after this point.

The occasion got to the visiting team, which ultimately resulted in Los Blancos running away with the match before the half-time whistle had even been sounded.

Silva told Man City: “It [the game] is difficult to speak about it because I would need to watch it again.

“My feeling on the pitch was that we started the game well. The environment we could not control and I think my team let the emotions change the game.

“We felt comfortable and were finding the right spaces but after conceding the first one we lost completely the control, we stopped controlling transitions and second balls.

“When you play against Real Madrid with the quality they have, you pay the price.”

Speaking about the Bernebeu and how it compares with other grounds, Silva continued: “It is a tough stadium to play at. We are used to playing at these stadiums because playing at Anfield and St James’ Park is very tough.

“You need to go through these moments to become better and today was just a learning game for the whole team.

“It is quite frustrating [we didn’t score], even though we believe it is still possible because in football a lot of things can happen, at half-time we were saying, ‘the situation is bad’ there were a lot of things that shouldn’t have happened but with one goal you are in the tie.”

Man City will have a home advantage in the second leg

While things are not looking good, they are at home next week which means there will be far fewer Real Madrid supporters to bring down the roof.

Man City have delivered a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid before at the Etihad Stadium, so doing so again is not out of the question.

However, they will need to be much better at managing the situation when things go wrong in order to get back on top and seal a huge triumph.
