City face a decision over the future of academy graduate Rico Lewis, with Everton tracking the young defender ahead of a potential summer move.
According to reports from TEAMtalk, the 21-year-old right-back is a target for Toffees manager David Moyes, who wants to exploit the player’s ability to operate in multiple positions across the backline and midfield.
Crucially, City are understood to be open to a sale during the current transfer window if an acceptable offer is made.
Frustration at the Etihad
Despite signing a long-term contract extension in September 2025, Lewis has found first-team opportunities limited over the past twelve months.
The defender fell down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order behind Matheus Nunes, who established himself at right-back last season. Restricted to just three Premier League starts and frequently omitted from matchday squads, Lewis subsequently lost his place in Thomas Tuchel’s senior England set-up.
With further competition in midfield from the emergence of academy prospect Nico O’Reilly, Lewis is believed to be considering his options in search of regular first-team football.
A summer departure?
While City retain high regard for the Bury-born player, club officials will not stand in his way if a suitable bid arrives. However, a departure will not come cheap, with City expected to demand a fee in excess of £35 million.
Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation, meaning Everton could face stiff competition. Having played a prominent role in City’s recent trophy successes, allowing the homegrown defender to leave would be a difficult call, but one that could suit all parties as Lewis looks to kickstart his career.
