Manchester City add Scotland under-17s ‘top talent’ to academy ranks

Manchester City have completed the signing of a 16-year-old who was wanted by Manchester United and Liverpool.

Steps are being taken to ensure Manchester City are ready for the future, as seen by the ongoing Etihad Campus development

And the club are working just as hard to remain successful on the pitch, by identifying emerging talents who can become stars in years to come.

It seems Man City have wrapped up a deal for one such player, who has recently featured for the B team of the Scottish Premiership leaders.

Man City have signed Keir McMeekin

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have completed all the formal steps to sign Keir McMeekin from Heart of Midlothian.

A deal was confirmed in January which could see Hearts earn up to £2m from the transfer and the player has passed his medical.

The Daily Mail reported that McMeekin was attracting interest from Man United, Liverpool and Brighton. However, he was convinced to join City after he and his family were given a tour of the training facilities.

McMeekin still has limited experience

While McMeekin has been playing in the Lowland League, Scotland’s fifth tier, he never made an appearance for the Hearts senior team, except for two behind-close-door friendlies.

The youngster currently represents Scotland’s under-17s team, so again, he is not likely to be part of Man City’s senior squad any time soon.

Despite this, McMeekin is definitely one to keep an eye on, as he could become an important player at the Etihad some day.
