Manchester City unveil latest phase of Etihad Campus development

Manchester City have revealed the name of a new entertainment destination opening outside the Etihad Stadium later this year.

The Etihad Campus is truly unique compared with anything else in the UK, boasting senior and youth team arenas, training facilities and a concert venue.

Last month, Man City released artist impressionimages of the Medlock Hotel, which will soon be standing tall on the site.

There are also plans for an entertainment venue behind the recently extended North Stand and the club have today revealed what it will be called.

Man City name entertainment venue Medlock Square

Manchester City have kept the Medlock theme going for their soon-to-be entertainment venue, with the name inspired by the river which runs beneath the site.

The new development will contain a club museum, flagship City store and a covered activation space which can facilitate up to 3000 people.

Danny Wilson, Managing Director, Manchester City Operations, said: “Medlock Square represents the next step in our long-term commitment to the regeneration of East Manchester and the continued development of world-class facilities at the Etihad Campus.

“The new facilities and experiences will give fans more ways than ever to enjoy the Etihad on matchdays and beyond and establish Medlock Square as an unrivalled entertainment destination.”

Man City must match their off-pitch ambitions on the park

It is exciting to see these ongoing developments outside Man City’s stadium unfold. However, the club’s primary focus needs to remain on the field.

As shown by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, facility upgrades and new commercial opportunities do not always lead to success. Spurs may have a state-of-the-art arena, but they are barely above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Man City spent well in January and continuing to invest in Pep Guardiola’s squad is vital to the club’s long-term success.
