“What a player” Pep Guardiola waxes lyrical over Nico O’Reilly

Pep Guardiola has had his say on Nico O’Reilly after the young starlet’s phenomenal performance against Newcastle United.

Manchester City are two points off the top of the Premier League and while each player contributed against Newcastle, Nico O’Reilly was the one who stood out the most.

The 20-year-old was simply magnificent in the first half, scoring with a rocket of a strike and later on with a well directed header.

Pep Guardiola has made a big decision by continuing with so much game time and the attacker has certainly warranted his place in the first-team with a display to remember.

Pep Guardiola claims Nico O’Reilly deserves his chances

O’Reilly has done his manager proud this season and that is something which is more true than ever after Saturday night.

The Englishman is able to play just about anywhere on the pitch and Guardiola has been thrilled with the way he has stepped up over the course of the campaign.

He told TNT Sports: “He’s played full-back, holding midfielder sometimes when Rodri was not there, he can play now in his position.

What a player, I would say! He made an incredible step up. I gave him a lot of minutes, but he deserves it! The minutes he plays, he deserves it!”

O’Reilly has become a nailed-on starter at Man City

There is simply no way Guardiola will be dropping O’Reilly any time soon after his recent display of heroics when something special was needed.

He has claimed his place in the first-team and no one can claim it is not deserved based on what the star has delivered.

A trip to Leeds United is next up for Man City and surely O’Reilly will be one of the first names on the team sheet.
