Manchester City crashed out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage as Liverpool defeated them 5-1 on aggregate.
The Citizens were forced to overturn a 3-0 deficit following the first leg at Anfield and despite Gabriel Jesus’ early opener at the Etihad Stadium, they were unable to break down a resilient Liverpool side.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino in the second-half helped Liverpool into the semi-finals, making it three defeats roughly in the space of a week for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Here are our Manchester City player ratings.
Ederson - 5
Could have coped better in the build-up to Salah’s goal.
Kyle Walker - 6
Worked hard but couldn’t contain Liverpool’s attacking force.
Nicolas Otamendi - 5
Made a significant error for Firmino’s goal.
Aymeric Laporte - 7
One of City’s better players on the day but was also given a hard time by the likes of Sadio Mane.
Fernandinho - 6
Tried to move the ball at pace but couldn’t quite impact the game.
Kevin De Bruyne - 7
Drove City forward when he could and was always a threat.
David Silva - 5
Silva went missing once again and failed to impact his side’s attacking play.
Leroy Sane - 6
Had a goal wrongly chalked off. He worked hard but Sane was offside far too often.
Raheem Sterling - 6
Probed the Liverpool defence and played a big part in his side’s opener but was quiet in large parts.
Bernardo Silva - 8
By far City’s best player. He worked relentlessly hard and came agonisingly close as he struck the post.
Gabriel Jesus - 7
Took his goal extremely well but was rather quiet.
Sergio Aguero – 5: Liverpool’s resilient defenders barely allowed him a sniff.
Ilkay Gundogan – 5: Had next to no impact when he came on.
