Manchester City overcome Newcastle in four-goal FA Cup thriller

Manchester City have secured their spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals after a delightful second half display against Newcastle.

Travelling to Newcastle was never going to be an easy task, particularly after they came close to taking a point off Man City in the Premier League.

However, Pep Guardiola’s men have brought down the Magpies after a sensational second half display.

From accidental scores to the Man City manager’s touchline antics, this game had a little bit of everything.

Manchester City knock Newcastle out of the FA Cup

Fear struck the hearts of Man City fans when Newcastle opened the scoring at St James’ Park. Sandro Tonali played an excellent through ball and Harvey Barnes did well with the finish.

However, City responded before the break in the most bizarre way possible. Savinho was the scorer, but in truth, he did not know much about what was happening as the ball deflected off the Brazilian into the net.

While Savinho’s goal was not the most impressive, it was certainly important as it gave City the foundation to take the lead. This of course happened just two minutes into the second half thanks to Omar Marmoush.

And it was the Egyptian who scored again after 65 minutes, as he thumped the ball past Aaron Ramsdale, sealing an excellent victory.

Man City dominated Newcastle

Nobody can deny that City were the deserving winners on Saturday night after their superb display.

Seven big chances, 3.2xG and 21 shots – those are the kind of stats that paint quite the picture.

Pep Guardiola will be delighted with his players, especially when he made 10 changes to his starting lineup.

Now City can look ahead to the quarter-finals, but first, Real Madrid await in the Champions League on Wednesday.
