Max Alleyne scores as four Man City players start England U21 win

Max Alleyne scored as four Man City players started for England Under-21s in a 4-2 European Championship qualifying victory over Kazakhstan at Molineux on Friday night.

Rico Lewis was joined in Lee Carsley’s starting XI by Alleyne, Stephen Mfuni and Divin Mubama. Alleyne is spending the season on loan at Burnley, Mfuni is with Coventry City and Mubama is on loan at Southampton.

It proved an eventful night for the Young Lions, who fell behind after only three minutes before recovering to take another step towards qualification for next summer’s European Under-21 Championship.

Alleyne volley puts England ahead

Kazakhstan made the perfect start when Artem Litosh opened the scoring from a corner, but England were level in the 26th minute through an Ali Turganov own goal.

Josh Acheampong put England ahead six minutes later before Saif Popov struck shortly before half-time to send the teams in level at 2-2.

Mfuni had also gone close to scoring before the interval, hitting the crossbar with an effort that had goalkeeper Miras Rikhard beaten.

Alleyne then restored England’s lead on the hour. Ethan Nwaneri’s free-kick was headed into his path by Acheampong and the City defender met the ball with a powerful volley to make it 3-2.

Mubama had twice tested Rikhard during the game before being replaced by Will Lankshear in the 69th minute. His replacement went on to score England’s fourth in stoppage time and complete the 4-2 victory.

Lewis and Mfuni both completed the full match, while goalscorer Alleyne also remained on the pitch for the 90 minutes.

The victory leaves England in a position to secure qualification for next summer’s finals in Serbia and Albania when they face Slovakia at Stoke City on Friday.
