Rúben Dias at centre of Porto tunnel incident that could bring UEFA scrutiny

Rúben Dias was involved in the half-time confrontation during City’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Porto, which could reportedly attract UEFA scrutiny.

Tempers had already started to rise after Marc Guéhi caught Gabri Veiga with his arm shortly before the break, with Porto furious that the City defender was not sent off. The arguments continued after the half-time whistle as players and staff made their way towards the tunnel.

Reports described pushing and shoving before security intervened, while footage appeared to show Dias putting a hand on Porto head coach Francesco Farioli’s chest.

The Guardian reports that the half-time incident may bring UEFA scrutiny, while The Times says any punishment could depend on what is contained in the officials’ reports. There has been no confirmation that Dias has been charged or is personally facing disciplinary action.

Enzo Maresca had already made his way towards the dressing room when the confrontation unfolded and said afterwards that he had not seen what happened. When asked whether he would speak to Dias if he became aware of anything, the City boss said he “probably” would before pointing towards the behaviour of the Porto bench.

It was a fiery evening at the Estádio do Dragão, with tensions flaring again late on when Erling Haaland and Pablo Rosario clashed.

City ultimately had the final word where it counted. Haaland scored twice in the second half to secure a 2-0 victory and a winning start to Maresca’s Champions League campaign.

For Dias and City, the question now is whether anything further emerges from UEFA in the aftermath.
