Man City expected to sign two midfielders as six-man shortlist emerges

City are expected to sign two midfielders before the transfer window closes, with six players currently among the options under consideration.

Ben Jacobs reports that City are looking at several targets as Enzo Maresca continues to reshape his midfield following the departures of Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.

Most of the names have been linked with City before. The significant part of Jacobs’ update is the suggestion that the club expect to bring in two midfielders before the deadline.

Ayyoub Bouaddi is the most advanced of the potential deals. City are in talks with Lille over the teenager, and negotiations are now at an advanced stage.

Jacobs also says City remain prepared to bid for Enzo Fernandez, despite Chelsea’s deadline for selling the Argentina international having passed.

Six options for City

Adam Wharton is another player on City’s list, with an enquiry made for the Crystal Palace midfielder.

Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister is also admired, although Jacobs says Liverpool have no intention of allowing the 27-year-old to leave at this stage of the window.

Roma midfielder Manu Koné remains under consideration after Jack Gaughan reported City’s interest earlier on Thursday.

Alex Scott completes the six.

According to Jacobs, City approached Bournemouth about Scott last month. Bournemouth have since rejected a £64m bid from Chelsea and maintain that the England international is not for sale.

Some of those deals would clearly be more difficult than others.

Bouaddi is currently the closest to completion, while Chelsea, Liverpool and Bournemouth have all taken firm positions over Fernandez, Mac Allister and Scott respectively.

What now appears more certain is City’s intention to add numbers in midfield before the window closes, with Jacobs reporting that two signings are expected.
