Another significant day in and around Man City, with the Enzo Fernandez situation taking another turn ahead of Chelsea’s deadline.
Chelsea prepare for Fernandez exit
Chelsea are reportedly making contingency plans for Enzo Fernandez’s departure, with City still interested in the Argentina international.
The Blues want £120m and had given City until 5pm on Friday (today) to meet their valuation.
Enzo Maresca has now made it clear that City will not do so today, meaning there will be no immediate move for the midfielder. That does not necessarily end the story, however, with the transfer window still open until the end of the month.
Chelsea’s preparations for a possible replacement are arguably the more interesting development. Our full Fernandez story has the latest.
Rodri future remains uncertain
Rodri was another major talking point at Maresca’s press conference.
Barcelona have already had two bids rejected for the midfielder and are expected to consider another approach. Maresca offered no definitive answer on Rodri’s long-term future, although the midfielder has returned to training and remains available for Sunday’s Community Shield.
The uncertainty around Rodri is important because it continues to explain City’s interest in Fernandez.
Reijnders set to leave
Tijjani Reijnders is also on his way out, with a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Qadsiah reportedly worth around £51m.
That would leave City with further work to do in midfield, despite the imminent arrival of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille.
For now, Fernandez remains a possibility rather than a deal. Chelsea’s stance has not changed, and neither has City’s reluctance to meet the £120m price.
The next move may simply have to wait.
