City have agreed personal terms with Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, but a gap in valuation between the two clubs is holding up a formal deal.
City have submitted an offer worth around €2m for the 34-year-old, while Marseille are said to be holding out for closer to €3.5m. Despite the £1.5m gap, reports in France suggest there’s growing confidence a compromise can be found.
Rulli is lined up as back-up to Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the position needing cover after James Trafford’s move to Leeds United.
City director of football Hugo Viana identified the Argentina international as his preferred option, and personal terms are understood to have been agreed on a two-year contract.
The move would mark a return to Manchester for Rulli, who was registered at City during the 2016-17 season without making a competitive appearance, spending that campaign on loan at Real Sociedad instead.
Since joining Marseille in 2024, he’s made 73 appearances and was Ligue 1 side’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, keeping nine clean sheets in 39 games.
Sporting CP have also shown interest, but Rulli is said to have made his preference for a return to the Premier League clear.
Marseille, for their part, are believed to be lining up Toulouse’s Guillaume Restes as a replacement before signing off on Rulli’s exit.
