Semenyo hails Hong Kong welcome as City begin pre-season tour

Antoine Semenyo says he was struck by the scale of the reception City received on arrival in Hong Kong for the start of their pre-season tour.

“The club are global and have a lot of fans,” Semenyo told the club’s media team. “Getting to the hotel from the airport and seeing so many people welcoming us shows the great support we have out here, and we look forward to playing in front of them.”

City touched down in Hong Kong this week ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Inter Milan at the Kai Tak Stadium, a repeat of the 2023 Champions League final. It’s the club’s first visit to the city since 2019, when they beat local side Kitchee 6-1 in front of a raucous crowd.

Semenyo joined City from Bournemouth in a £64m deal in January and is using the tour to build fitness under new manager Enzo Maresca ahead of the new Premier League season. The Ghana international has already taken in a fan event on the Hong Kong waterfront this week as part of the build-up to the Inter match.

The Inter game kicks off the Asahi Super Dry Trophy fixture before City move on to Seoul to face a K League All-Stars side, then Madrid to play Atletico Madrid, as Maresca puts his squad through its paces before the campaign begins in earnest.
