Juventus have not given up on Tijjani Reijnders, with Tuttosport reporting the Italian club are monitoring his situation in case a loan opportunity arises later in the transfer window.
Any move would depend on the willingness of City to consider a temporary deal, something that looked unlikely as recently as two weeks ago, when Football Insider reported Enzo Maresca intended to give Reijnders a clean slate under the new regime rather than sanction a sale.
That stance appears to still be holding. Reijnders is part of City’s 28-man travelling squad for the pre-season tour of Asia, working under Maresca at the Kai Tak Stadium this weekend against Inter Milan, rather than being made available for a permanent exit.
The Dutchman endured a difficult second half of last season following his £46m move from AC Milan, falling out of Guardiola’s plans after a strong start and starting just three of City’s final twelve games. He impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup despite their round-of-16 exit, a factor cited by Juventus in their continued interest.
Juventus have previously been credited with pursuing Reijnders on a permanent basis, but a loan route would represent a lower-risk approach given the midfielder’s £46m valuation and the financial parameters Juventus are working within this summer.
For now, City’s plan appears to be giving Reijnders a proper chance to re-establish himself under Maresca before any decision on his future is revisited. Follow every Man City transfer story on our live tracker.
