Kalvin Phillips is reportedly closing in on a loan move to Sheffield United after being left out of City’s pre-season tour squad.
According to talkSPORT, the England international is expected to join the Championship club on a season-long deal as he looks to revive his career with regular first-team football.
Phillips has struggled for opportunities since joining City from Leeds United in 2022 and has spent time on loan at both West Ham United, Ipswich Town, and Sheffield United, for the latter part of last season.
His omission from Enzo Maresca’s travelling squad has only increased speculation over his future, with the Blades now appearing to be leading the race for his signature.
A move would give the 30-year-old another chance to rebuild his confidence, form and playing time after several difficult seasons at the Etihad.
For City, Phillips’ departure would further reduce a midfield group that has already undergone significant change in recent transfer windows, although Maresca has shown a willingness to place trust in younger players coming through the academy.
Philipps, if he stays, appears well out of the first-team picture.
No agreement has yet been confirmed by either club, but the latest reports suggest negotiations are progressing.
With the new Premier League season approaching, Phillips now looks increasingly likely to continue his career away from City as he searches for the consistent minutes that have proved difficult to find since his origiinal move from Elland Road.
