Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract with City, extending his stay at the Etihad until the summer of 2031.
The 22-year-old joined from Lens for a reported £33.5m in January 2025, becoming the first Uzbekistan international to play in the Premier League. His development since has been rapid: 47 appearances across all competitions, a season-defining centre-back partnership with Marc Guéhi through the second half of 2025-26, and starring roles in both the FA Cup and League Cup final wins.
Reflecting on the move, Khusanov said he feels he is growing and learning a lot as a player, with his focus now on impressing new head coach Enzo Maresca. Yahoo Sports
Director of football Hugo Viana was equally warm on the extension, saying the club has been really pleased and impressed by Khusanov’s development since he arrived in England.
The new deal arrives with defensive reshuffling under way at the Etihad: with John Stones and Nathan Åke both departing this summer, Khusanov is expected to be a first-choice fixture for Maresca as he starts to shape his own back line. He’s the second City player to commit long-term this week, following Phil Foden’s new four-year deal.
