City have opened talks over a new contract for 17-year-old striker Teddie Lamb, as the club moves to tie down one of its most promising academy prospects.
Lamb finished last season as City’s top scorer at Under-18 level with 25 goals, according to Football Insider, and played a key role as the club’s youth sides won both the FA Youth Cup and the Under-18 Premier League North.
He joined City’s academy from Leyton Orient last summer after his form for the League Two club’s youth teams caught the attention of scouts.
Building on a breakthrough year
Lamb is currently on a scholarship deal at the Etihad, due to run until 2027, but City are moving to improve his terms and protect his long-term future at the club amid growing interest from elsewhere. It follows a familiar pattern under sporting director Hugo Viana, who has prioritised locking down academy talent early rather than risking them moving to rivals.
The move sits alongside City’s other business at academy level this summer, including the £10m signing of Leicester’s Jeremy Monga and the arrival of Mishel Nduka from Arsenal, both completed as Enzo Maresca’s coaching staff take a growing interest in the club’s pipeline of young talent.
For a player who only joined the club twelve months ago, an improved deal this early represents a significant vote of confidence from City in Lamb’s trajectory, with the hope that regular football at academy level continues to translate into senior opportunities further down the line.
