City have signed Mathys Detourbet from Troyes and immediately loaned him to Monaco, with all documents now signed.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move on Wednesday. City paid Troyes a €25m package for the 19-year-old before sending him to the Ligue 1 side on loan. Monaco can extend that loan through to 2028, according to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins, who also reported City hold a clause allowing them to recall Detourbet early.
Detourbet joined Troyes’ academy at eight years old. He scored four goals and set up seven more in 27 appearances last season as Troyes won Ligue 2 and returned to the top flight. Troyes said in a statement: “Troyes is particularly proud to have supported Mathys’ growth both as a player and as a man.”
The move is City’s first direct transfer from Troyes, one of 12 clubs under the City Football Group banner. Sporting director Hugo Viana has moved to secure the winger before his valuation rose further, with the plan to build his experience in Ligue 1 before he’s considered for Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad.
Detourbet’s loan will extend automatically for a second season at Monaco if he plays five matches next season.
