- Man City are working on re-signing players
- Josko Gvardiol has agreed to a new deal
- Matheus Nunes could soon be next up
Manchester City have been successful in their mission to hold onto Josko Gvardiol, and their attention now turns to Matheus Nunes.
It recently emerged that Gvardiol agreed a five-year deal with Man City, keeping him at the Etihad until 2031.
This came after Phil Foden agreed a new long-term contract last month, which included a pay rise for the attacking midfielder.
And more recently, news dropped that Jeremy Doku would recommit his future to City for another five years.
Man City open talks with Matheus Nunes
After a string of successful negotiations, Man City are looking to achieve the same goal with first choice right-back Matheus Nunes.
The Portugal international has impressed club officials with his versatility, and City have open talks over an extension, according to TEAMtalk.
Nunes is seen as a player who has become ‘increasingly valuable’ to the squad, so getting him on a new contract is fast becoming a priority.
Nunes does not have long left on his current deal
In 2028, Nunes’ contract will expire, which means it is important Man City resolve his situation this summer.
After all, were the defender not to re-sign, he would need to be sold soon in order for the Citizens to earn a decent transfer fee.
However, Nunes has established himself as the club’s main player in his position, and he would have to be tempted by a team elsewhere in order to turn down a new contract.
Keeping Nunes is a no-brainer
Pep Guardiola deserves a lot of credit for switching up the role of Nunes in his team, because he is so good as a full-back.
The 27-year-old provides a strong, physical presence at the back, and going forwards he brings a creative element to the team.
Therefore, it is rather obvious that City should sign him, as finding another player who is just as good will be difficult without a heavy investment.
