- Bernardo Silva’s contract is about to expire
- He has been linked with Real Madrid
- Rodri has spoken about the potential move
Bernardo Silva could be on his way to Real Madrid, and Rodri reckons he would do just fine in the Spanish capital.
The departure of Bernardo Silva has been known for some time now, as he gave prior notice of his intentions.
This allowed the Man City captain to be given a proper send-off, when he played his final match for the club against Aston Villa.
And now, the Portugal international is looking for his next club. Barcelona has been named as a possible destination, but Real Madrid are the new favourites.
Rodri backs Bernardo Silva to thrive at Real Madrid
Speaking to El Larguero, Silva’s midfield partner Rodri has discussed the prospect of his skipper moving to Real Madrid.
According to the 29-year-old, Silva still has the ‘hunger’ and ‘ambition’ to play at the highest level.

“I see him in any big team. He’s a very good player and he’s already completed his time at Man City,” he said.
“He’s 32 years old [in August] and he’s a player with a lot of hunger and a lot of ambition”
Could Rodri be reunited with Silva?
Like Silva, Rodri has also been rumoured to have received interest from Los Blancos ahead of the summer transfer window.
In fact, he was named by unsuccessful presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme as a player the club wanted to sign.
However, Real Madrid are not without midfield options, and going for both City stars might not be in the club’s best interests.
Additionally, the Spanish team’s recent shenanigans will likely have damaged the relationship between the two clubs. Therefore, City would prefer to sell Rodri elsewhere if he does depart.
Spanish journalist prefers Rodri over Silva
Interestingly, Spanish journalist Anton Meana responded to the Silva links with a suggestion that Real Madrid should sign Rodri instead.
“I don’t criticize the signing of Bernardo Silva for Real Madrid, but Rodri Hernández seems better to me,” he said.
“The thing is that Florentino Pérez doesn’t see signing Rodri despite having many favorable reports in the club. He doesn’t see him as a signing.”
Despite this, it seems more likely that Silva will be heading to the Bernabeu, unless he himself decides on a move somewhere else.
