- Pedro Porro has been linked with Man City
- The right-back position remains a priority
- Defender’s full focus is on the World Cup
Pedro Porro has been linked with Manchester City, but right now he is solely concentrating on his national team’s World Cup campaign.
Last month, it became known that Man City held talks to sign Porro from Tottenham Hotspur, after a difficult season for the defender.
The right-back area is a weakness in City’s team, but it has since emerged that City are looking for a young option who can play as a backup for Matheus Nunes.
Nevertheless, rumours have continued to fly around regarding a potential move for Porro this summer, even with the World Cup now ongoing.
Pedro Porro is not focused on joining Man City
While a move to Man City is often seen as attractive, Porro’s attention at this point in time is all on the World Cup.
He has not ruled out a move to the Citizens, but there is no chance of any negotiations taking place on his end before the tournament ends.
“I won’t listen to anything until after the World Cup. Besides, I have a contract with my club,” Porro told AS.
“If my agent calls, I’ll either not answer the phone or tell him after the World Cup. City? I don’t know anything.”
Tottenham are working on a new deal for Porro
Currently, Porro has two years remaining on his contract at the North London outfit, but work is being done to secure him for the long-term.
The 26-year-old will become a free agent in two years, unless he either moves sooner or agrees to a new deal.
Spurs have plans to make him one of their best players, which could be tempting. However, City would likely match that offer.
Are Man City the right team for Porro?
Remaining at Tottenham means Porro will not be competing in a European club competition next season. However, he is guaranteed to start matches, because there is little to no competition in his position.
Whereas at Man City, Nunes has had a very good campaign, and should continue to start more often than not.
Therefore, if playing on a weekly basis is Porro’s priority, a move to Man City might not be so good after all.
