Transfer update provided on Claudio Echeverri’s Man City future
  • Claudio Echeverri has been on loan at Girona
  • The Spanish club were relegated this season
  • Remaining at Man City is already ruled out

Claudio Echeverri could be on the move again next season, with four clubs interested in signing him on loan.

Since Man City signed the attacking midfielder in 2024, his pathway to the first-team has been full of trials.

Echeverri was first loaned back to River Plate, before getting his first taste of European football at Bayer Leverkusen.

Making only six appearances, the 20-year-old was sent to Girona in January, only to suffer relegation from La Liga last month.

So after multiple setbacks, City must now decide what to do with Echeverri, with the summer transfer window opening in just five days.

Claudio Echeverri is attracting interest

It was recently reported that Man City want to loan out Echeverri for a fourth time, at some point before the new season begins.

This has been reiterated by Joao Boysen. The journalist has confirmed he will not remain at Girona, while there is no chance of him staying at the Citizens.

Additionally, River Plate are experiencing some struggles, making a return to Argentina unlikely, but not impossible

Therefore, Echeverri could join either River Plate, or one of Flamengo, Bahia or Monza, who are all monitoring the attacker’s situation.

Echeverri’s season in numbers

During the 2025/26 campaign, Echeverri made 28 appearances in total, with five of those coming in the Champions League.

One of his three goal contributions came in that competition – an assist during a 2-2 draw against Copenhagen. In fact, that was the only time he registered any for Bayer Leverkusen.

In total, Echeverri played 888 minutes, recording a goal and two assists. So on the whole, it was not an overly impressive season.

Not long left for Echeverri

Since Echeverri only has two years until his Man City contract expires, making it work at the domestic double winners seems unlikely at this stage.

He has failed to make any significant impression during his moves away from the Etihad Stadium, but does not have much longer to prove his worth.

So unless Echeverri can make this next loan move the one where he makes real progress, any chance of playing in the Man City first-team will disappear.
