Man City named in race for former academy star as Juventus make move
  • Brahim Diaz has attracted fresh transfer attention
  • Juventus are looking to add more creativity this summer
  • Man City have now been named in the picture

Brahim Diaz’s future at Real Madrid has taken on fresh relevance for Man City, with the club now mentioned among the competition for their former academy player.

Diaz was one of the most promising youngsters coming out of the City academy. However, he later became one of the most high-profile examples of academy players who found minutes hard to come by at the Etihad.

Diaz struggled to find a role with the senior side. Hence, the Spanish-born Moroccan international left for Real Madrid in 2019.

Since then, the winger has built a strong career across Spain and Italy, including an important loan spell at AC Milan.

However, Diaz is now attracting fresh interest in the transfer market with his former employers also in the mix.

Man City named in Brahim Diaz race

According to Corriere dello Sport, Juventus are interested in signing Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid. The Italian outlet claims Luciano Spalletti wants a player capable of adding creativity in the final third.

The Italian side are said to have made direct contact with the player’s father-agent in an attempt to explore a deal.

However, the move is not expected to be simple. The winger reportedly wants to stay at Madrid and work under Jose Mourinho next season.

The report further claims competition from Man City, who seemingly want to give their academy graduate another chance.

Brahim could operate between the lines for City

While City’s interest remains low-key at the moment, Diaz could prove to be a great signing for the Citizens.

Bernardo Silva has left the Etihad, and the FA Cup winners are yet to sign a replacement in the Portuguese star’s place.

The Sky Blues do have plans with big names on their list, but Brahim could be a great low-cost option. He primarily operates as a winger for Real Madrid, but his skill set is not limited to the flanks.

Man City could use the 26-year-old as a midfielder who combines in tight spaces and links play around the final third.

Diaz’s versatility is only the cherry on the cake as City’s football values the ability to play in different positions.

City could benefit even without signing Brahim

The situation could still work in City’s favour even if Brahim does not return to the Etihad. When the attacker left for Real Madrid in 2019, reports claimed that the deal included a sell-on clause.

Los Blancos would have to pay Man City 15% of the transfer fee if Diaz is sold to a non-Manchester club. For now, Juventus appear to have made the most concrete move for the winger.

However, Diaz is keen on staying at the Bernabeu. Hence, the interested clubs will have to do a lot of convincing to sign the player.

matchday.
