Erling Haaland backed to stay at Man City ‘without any doubt’
  • Erling Haaland’s future has been discussed amid Real Madrid links
  • Hans-Joachim Watzke has now offered his view on the striker
  • The Borussia Dortmund chief expects Haaland to remain at Man City next season

Erling Haaland’s future has once again become part of the wider Real Madrid conversation as the Spanish club moves through another politically charged period.

The Man City striker has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu since before he joined the club.

Those links have never completely disappeared, even after his move to England. However, Haaland’s long-term contract gives City a strong position.

Regardless, Real Madrid’s interest in elite players rarely fades quietly. With Los Blancos going through a political transition, the name of the Norwegian goal machine is being echoed again at the Bernabeu.

Erling Haaland receives fresh Real Madrid claim

Speaking to AS, Borussia Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke discussed Haaland’s future amid the latest Real Madrid links.

Watzke admitted that Haaland admires Real Madrid and could see himself playing for the Spanish giants in the future.

However, he also made it clear that a move is not expected this summer. The Dortmund figure claimed that Haaland will continue at Man City next season “without any doubt”.

Haaland played for Dortmund before joining City in 2022, and Watzke remains one of the senior figures who saw his rise closely in Germany.

Likewise, the comments in Madrid come from presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme, who made public claims about signing Haaland.

Man City remain protected by Haaland contract

Haaland signed a new long-term contract with Man City in January 2025. The agreement keeps him at the Etihad until the summer of 2034, giving the Citizens one of the strongest contract positions in world football.

The Norwegian striker is not even close to a stage where Real Madrid could apply normal transfer pressure.

Likewise, the FA Cup winners moved to remove the uncertainty that surrounded his previous contract. Haaland’s first City deal was regularly discussed because of reports that release clauses could become active later in the deal.

However, his new agreement does not include any release clauses, meaning Madrid would not have a simple fixed-price route to sign him.

Real Madrid noise may continue around Haaland

Regardless, Haaland’s name will continue to be used in Real Madrid politics. Whenever Madrid enter a major election period, big names naturally become part of the conversation.

However, City should not be concerned as the striker remains tied to a long-term deal and his importance at the Etihad remains obvious.

Nevertheless, the Carabao Cup winners will still have to keep control of the narrative around Haaland. Even if a transfer is not realistic right now, public claims can create unnecessary noise.
