Fabrizio Romano clarifies where Man City stand on 20-year-old right-back

Manchester City are looking to bring in a new right-back, and appeared to have identified their number one target.

The right-back position is a concern for Man City, with Matheus Nunes transitioning from his traditional midfield role in order to keep things ticking out wide.

Recently, City have held talks to sign Pedro Porro, but Tottenham Hotspur are keen to hold onto the defender.

And it turns out that Man City want to sign a young right-back, who has the potential to become a key player in the future.

Man City are interested in Givairo Reid

Feyenoord’s Givairo Reid matches this profile, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that he is still under consideration by Man City.

Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, which has been the case since earlier in the year.

Reid still has three years remaining on his current contract, but a move to the Premier League would be difficult to turn down.

Additionally, there is a limit to how much Feyenoord can charge, as they are not viewed as one of Europe’s elite clubs.

Reid is the ideal signing

It would make no sense for Man City to pursue a right-back who would constantly be competing with Nunes.

The Portugal international has shown this season that he is good enough to be a nailed-on starter, so the club have no need of a player such as Porro, for example.

Reid is still young and has been playing in the Eredivisie. Therefore, he would likely be okay with not starting on a weekly basis for City, at least during his first season.

However, Reid is emerging as a really promising talent, and he could become the modern, dynamic full-back Man City need.

City should not hold back

There is plenty of ongoing talk about the Citizens putting aside large sums of money to spend on their midfield, but finding a new right-back is just as important.

Especially since Rico Lewis is considering his future at the club, after a campaign where he started only 12 matches in all competitions.

City need to be investing a good amount of money in order to secure Reid, because his age and abilities make him the perfect choice.
