Joe Hart includes Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Cherki in his end of season awards
  • Hart announces end of season awards
  • Includes two Manchester City players
  • Pep Guardiola almost made it as well

Joe Hart has named two Manchester City players in his end-of-season awards, and there could have ended up being one or two more.

There is still a Champions League final left to be played before the 2025/26 season draws to a close, but for Man City it is done and dusted.

It has been a positive campaign on the whole, with City managing to lift both domestic cups. And the fact they beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final made that one even sweeter.

However, the Premier League title slipped away from their reach in the closing stages of the season, which was disappointing.

Regardless of this, the Citizens have done well, and Joe Hart has highlighted the contributions of two players in particular.

Joe Hart names Nico O’Reilly as his young player of the year

Nico O’Reilly was recently named as Man City’s player of the year, and he also won the Premier League young player of the year award.

And now, he has been selected as Hart’s young player of the season, after a year where he has established himself in City’s first-team.

O’Reilly is now ahead of Rayan Ait-Nouri in the pecking order, and he has been used as a midfielder too.

The 21-year-old has been magnificent, and it is no wonder he is going to the World Cup with England this summer.

Rayan Cherki also recognised by Hart

There were some great signings made last year, but in Hart’s opinion, none has been as good as Rayan Cherki.

The France international has shown himself to be the ultimate playmaker at City, registering 12 Premier League assists in 33 appearances.

In fact, Cherki was joint fourth for most chances created, trailing only Enzo Fernandez, Dominik Szoboslzai and Bruno Fernandes.

Additionally, the 22-year-old scored four goals in the top flight, and a further three in the Champions League.

Man City are building a team for the future

Pep Guardiola has left the Man City squad in an excellent state for Enzo Maresca, or whoever becomes the next manager.

Cherki and O’Reilly are both bright young talents, and there are players such as Abdukodir Khusanov and Jeremy Doku who have their best years ahead of them.

City may not have done enough to win the Premier League or Champions League this season, but the foundations are there to be built on.

With a couple more strong signings this summer, Man City could be in a very good position to claim football’s most sought after prizes.
