James Trafford joins three Man City teammates in England World Cup squad
  • Thomas Tuchel names England squad
  • Four Manchester City players included
  • Trafford makes cut despite lack of starts

Manchester City have four England internationals heading to the World Cup, but one big name has missed out.

The World Cup is fast approaching, and there will be a host of Man City stars representing their respective national teams.

Indeed, the most recent international break saw 17 City players in action. No other Premier League club had more.

For the Three Lions, Man City have four players getting on the plane to North America. However, one of the club’s long-term assets is missing out this time around.

Four Man City players named in England World Cup squad

Thomas Tuchel has selected James Trafford to go to the World Cup, even though he has only played three matches in the Premier League this season.

On the other hand, Trafford has started in two domestic cup finals. Better still, he kept clean sheets in both.

Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly have also been chosen, although this is not at all surprising considering their performances this season.

Finally, John Stones has made the cut. His starts have been limited too, during a season where injury concerns just keep on recurring.

James Trafford will hope to get at least one game

Trafford has shown himself to be a really good goalkeeper on his day. Were he not playing in the same team as Gianluigi Donnarumma, he might even be England’s number one by now.

But as it stands, Jordan Pickford is likely to be the shot-stopper between the sticks, having occupied the role for some time.

Despite this, England have matches against Ghana and Panama which should prove to be straightforward wins.

Tuchel could look to rotate his squad, and this might mean Trafford is handed an opportunity to show why he should be starting every game.

Phil Foden misses out

Man City are well represented in the Three Lions squad, but Phil Foden has not done enough to secure his spot.

It has been a difficult few months for the playmaker, who has looked off in a number of recent appearances.

However, Foden was just starting to turn the tide on his season, delivering an excellent performance against Crystal Palace.

Unfortunately, this has come too late, and he must now spend the summer focusing on how to break back into Man City’s first-team as a regular starter next season.
