Pep Guardiola leaving Man City for Liverpool: Are you serious Jermaine Pennant?

  • Pep Guardiola’s Man City exit anticipated to take place this summer
  • Jermaine Pennant suggests shocking next move for manager
  • Wants him to take charge of former club and says he would love it

Jermaine Pennant has outlined where Pep Guardiola should move after his Manchester City departure, and his suggestion is truly bizarre.

Change is in the air at Man City. Regardless of what Pep Guardiola says, it seems to be a known fact that he will leave the club this summer.

This means the manager’s 10-year spell in the Premier League will draw to a close, so he is due some time off to enjoy his many achievements.

However, there are rumours that Guardiola could jump straight into a new role, and Jermaine Pennant thinks he has found the perfect job for him.

Jermaine Pennant wants Pep Guardiola to manage Liverpool

Ex-Red Pennant has told talkSPORT that his former club should replace Arne Slot with Guardiola ahead of next season.

Asked if he would welcome the City boss to Liverpool, he replied: “Of course, who wouldn’t?

“Every team on the planet would like Pep as their manager.”

Despite the fact Guardiola regularly competed against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool for Premier League titles, Pennant has insisted he ‘couldn’t care less’ about the Catalan’s history.

“If you’re going come over here, play attractive football – as you do, win. Yeah, come here mate. Open arms pal, come on,” Pennant continued.

“If it was Man United – [if he’d spent] 10 years there, then it’d be an issue, but I don’t think at City it’d be an issue.

“They’ve been our biggest rivals over the last so long, because we’ve been successful. But when we weren’t successful, it wasn’t City that were our rivals.”

Pennant says Guardiola would love to manage Liverpool

Not only has Pennant suggested Liverpool should approach Guardiola, but he has claimed the 55-year-old would ‘love’ being in charge of the club.

The pundit added: “He’d love to [manage Liverpool]. Look at the Kop when you walk out. 100 per cent. The atmosphere – he’d love to play in that.”

Interestingly, Pennant has focused on when Liverpool walk out before a game. But as we all know, the atmosphere at Anfield is not that impressive as the game goes on, especially if they are losing.

Regardless of how good it is, there is no chance Guardiola will have any interest in managing a rival club.

He knows how City supporters would feel about that type of move, and ruining his relationship with the fanbase after so many years is a non-starter.

Guardiola will show City the same courtesy Klopp offered Liverpool

When Klopp exited Liverpool, he made it clear that he had no intention of managing in the Premier League again.

Guardiola will feel the same way. After all, he will not be wanting to compete against the manager who seeks to build on the legacy he has created at Man City.

The manager’s next move is still very much unknown, but telling Liverpool to go for him is a waste of time.

Taking charge of the Reds is a very similar job to what Guardiola has already been doing. His objectives would be to win the Premier League, compete for the Champions League and lift as many domestic cups as possible.

But Guardiola will be eyeing up a new challenge, which means there is no chance of him taking up another role in England.
