Leyton Orient just won social media post of the year with Pep Guardiola joke

  • Leyton Orient deliver amusing social media post on Pep Guardiola
  • In direct response to Stockport County manager’s revelation
  • Incorporates recent spygate scandal involving Southampton

Stockport County’s manager recently revealed something very interesting about Pep Guardiola, and Leyton Orient have come up with the perfect response.

Manchester City have already made plans for Pep Guardiola’s anticipated departure once the season is over.

Enzo Maresca has agreed to a three-year deal and will become the club’s new manager, unless there is a major development in the coming days to indicate otherwise.

With the legendary figure on his way out, memories are being shared of his time in England, and Stockport head coach Dave Challinor has come up with one of the best.

He told the BBC: “He’s embroiled himself in the culture and influenced every manager in England.”

“When Man City played Leyton Orient in the FA Cup [in February 2025], he phoned me for advice. I thought it was a wind-up! He’ll be a huge miss.”

Leyton Orient respond to Pep Guardiola claim

It did not take long for Challinor’s Guardiola admission to reach Leyton Orient, who quickly got to work on photoshop.

The club posted on their official X account: “Cheeky Pep, we don’t mind it,” with an altered image of Guardiola spying outside their training ground.

This, of course, is a joke also aimed at Southampton, who were recently expelled from the Championship play-off final due to their spygate incident.

Guardiola has been a credit to the English game

Many managers arrive in the Premier League and show no interest in the wider Football League pyramid, but not Guardiola.

He was recently spotted at Stockport’s defeat to Port Vale, even choosing to watch the match over what turned out to be the Champions League game of the season.

To ask Challinor about Leyton Orient highlights the humility of Guardiola. He recognised the manager’s insight, and did something few top flight coaches would do.

Indeed, the advice Challinor gave may well have helped City get over the line, as Leyton Orient played a very good game.

In the end, City got over the line, but only by a single goal after strikes from Abdukodir Khusanov and Kevin De Bruyne cancelled out Stefan Ortega’s own goal.

Enzo Maresca must show the same humility

Guardiola’s modesty is part of what makes him such a good manager. He knows the hard work required to come out on top and be successful.

It is important for Maresca to behave in a similar manner, ensuring he is not overconfident when entering into the City role.

Managing this great club is by no means a straightforward job. It is certainly one of the most demanding positions around.

Therefore, Maresca needs to show that he is adaptable and willing to listen, because this is still a fairly new experience for him.

Yes, he has managed Chelsea, but taking charge of the Citizens is going to be the biggest test of his career so far.
