Alan Shearer does not want Pep Guardiola to quit Man City
Ex-Premier League striker Alan Shearer has highlighted just how successful Guardiola has been at Man City.
Shearer would like to see the manager continue in his current role next season, but he has a lot of respect for him no matter what decision is made.
🗣️ @GaryLineker: "He intimated that he's going to stay…"

“I honestly haven’t got a club [whether Pep Guardiola will stay or go],” Shearer told The Rest is Football.
“I guess I admire the way, if he does go then for them to keep it quiet as they have done and he has done, and he’s constantly said the same thing that he’s going to stay. But I don’t know, I really don’t know. I’m just guessing in what I say.
“I hope he stays for another year, but if he decides to go out after 10 years and 20 trophies and two trophies [this season], and he’ll still say they’ve got a chance [to win the Premier League],” he continued.
“They have to go to Bournemouth and win, clearly. But whatever he decides, it’s been a pleasure to watch his teams and how he dismantled everyone else and won everything that he has won.”
Pep Guardiola reacts to Bournemouth’s incredible form
Man City will not be thinking about Bournemouth as just another team. They are a side chasing European football, and who are undefeated since January.
Guardiola has highlighted the positive feelings in City’s camp after the weekend, but he knows their next test could be far less successful.
“Of course it is better to travel to Bournemouth with the feeling that we won the FA Cup than the opposite, but it is a different competition,” Guardiola said in his pre-match press conference.
“They are 16 or 17 games unbeaten so their run is incredible. We have to break that run otherwise it will be over.”
Antoine Semenyo knows Man City’s next game will be difficult
Despite losing Antoine Semenyo in January, Bournemouth have been in excellent form. In fact, they have not lost a match in the Premier League since his departure.
Semenyo has joked that he was the player holding the club back, and he knows they will deliver another strong performance on Tuesday.
“I was the problem,” Semenyo jokingly told Manchester Evening News. “I’m happy they’re doing so well and hopefully they get into Europe, too.
“It’s going to be tough [against Bournemouth]. They’ve got something to fight for so they’re going to make it tough.”
The night is set to be particularly difficult for Semenyo, as he has received some warnings about the kind of challenges he will face from his old teammates.
“It won’t be weird going back. It’ll be good to see everyone again,” he continued.
“I still speak to them every day, to be honest, they’ve been giving me a lot of c**p, just like that they’re going to kick me, this and that, but it’ll be good to see them all.
“It’s going to be tough. I’m looking forward to the challenge, hopefully we win.”
Phil Foden surprised by Antoine Semenyo at Man City
Semenyo’s goal left everyone speechless. Well, except for the City fans, who were going wild after the ball struck the net.
And this is just one of the many good things the Ghana international has done since joining the Citizens.
He is impressing all his teammates, including Phil Foden, who branded his goal ‘unbelievable’.
“Honestly, I didn’t see it live, I just missed it,” Foden told Sky Sports. “And I see it on the replay, what a finish!”
Speaking on why Semenyo has surprised him, Foden said: “No, it’s not easy when you’re a new player coming into Manchester City, and I think he’s adapted so quickly and surprised me as well.
“He’s a fantastic player, such a goal threat. It’s lovely to have him in the team and to play with him.”
Rodri offers update on Man City future
Another player to have been linked with an exit is Man City’s Ballon d’Or winning midfielder, despite the fact he is going to be offered a new contract.
Rodri’s current deal expires next year, and he has been asked about his plans for next season, after City’s FA Cup final win.
“I’m calm,” he told the media. “As I said a while ago, I’m only thinking about my club, about finishing the season with as many titles as possible.
“We have the chance to win the Premier League and then the World Cup [with Spain]. Right now, I’m not thinking much about my future. I’ll be honest with you because there’s another priority.”
Man City will have extra energy against Bournemouth
Pep Guardiola and his players have plenty to celebrate, but they do not have the time to truly enjoy their successes, at least for now.
City played Bournemouth on Tuesday night as they look to keep up with Arsenal in the Premier League.
Guardiola has acknowledged that his team will be tired, but Saturday’s triumph should give them a new burst of life.
During his press conference, the manager said: “The fatigue will be the same [vs Bournemouth], but the energy will be different [after winning the FA Cup], absolutely. Going to Bournemouth [after] losing would’ve been more difficult.
“I said, ‘guys, take a shower quick, go to the airport, and quick because tomorrow recovery, Monday you travel to Bournemouth’.”
