In a sit-down interview ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola has completely dismissed the relentless rumours surrounding his Manchester City future.

Speculation had been mounting that the 55-year-old mastermind might call time on his English football journey at the end of the campaign, especially because of the contract extension he signed in November 2024.

However, contrary to popular belief, Guardiola’s commitment to the club remains solid until the summer of 2027, leaving at least one more full season of his era intact.

It is easy to see why the rumour mill has been spinning so fiercely, given the impending summer departures of long-serving stalwarts like John Stones and Bernardo Silva. Yet, it’s not time to draw a curtain on Guardiola’s City just yet!

Pep Guardiola gives reassurance to Manchester City fans

Today’s trip to the capital marks Man City’s whopping 24th appearance at Wembley under the Spaniard’s guidance.

But with the final on the cusp, Guardiola has taken a burning question off the table. He was asked by BBC Sport: “Do you reckon you’ll be here next season?”

He replied, “Yeah, I’m here. I have a contract.” He even looked visibly done with the question when the host tried to confirm with a follow-up question: “Next season?”

Guardiola added, “Oh my, people have asked me that question for a long, long time. I know the answer. You should know the answer. I’m here… I’m here at the end of the season in the Premier League. So, that’s good.”

Guardiola sits on the perch

The only argument accepted here will be from Manchester United fans bringing up Sir Alex Ferguson, if we are talking exclusively about the greats of the modern Premier League era.

But when you look at the sheer weight of what is being accomplished in real time, the Catalan tactical genius is making a definitive case to stand completely alone at the top.

Before Pep’s arrival, the club had won just 4 league titles, 5 FA Cups, and 4 League Cups in its entire history. Fast forward through a decade of absolute dominance: Guardiola has delivered 16 major trophies and 3 Community Shields.

What cements his legacy on the perch, however, is his complete revolution of the modern game. Guardiola bent it to his will, evolving from standard possession play into inverted full-backs, box midfields, and high-pressing structures that every academy in the country now tries to copy.

Chance to add one more to the cabinet in the FA Cup final

As the Sky Blues prepare to battle Chelsea for the afternoon’s silverware, Guardiola is focused entirely on the immediate task at hand: securing the 17th major trophy of his unparalleled decade of dominance in Manchester.

It has been ‘F***ing fun’, he says, but now he has doubled down, and he wants that fun to continue. It starts today. That will be his 20th honour with the club since taking over back in 2016.

If it’s something to go by, then he has certainly got the fans excited about the Wembley outing with his recent interviews.
