Marc Guehi eager for ‘legend’ Pep Guardiola to remain at Man City after FA Cup success

Marc Guehi eager for ‘legend’ Pep Guardiola to remain at Man City after FA Cup success

Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City has been up in the air for some time, and Marc Guehi does not want to see him go.

The ex-Crystal Palace centre-back only joined the Citizens at the beginning of February, so he has not had much time to play under Guardiola.

Nevertheless, Guehi has already been able to get his hands on two different trophies since he began being mentored by English football’s second most successful manager.

Guardiola still has one year remaining on his contract, so Guehi might still have more time to learn from him.

However, the Catalan coach could decide to call it a day this summer, as it is not as if he has left any stone unturned at Man City.

Marc Guehi wants Pep Guardiola to stay at Manchester City

Guehi might not have known Guardiola on a personal basis for long, but he has seen enough to brand his new manager a legend.

Additionally, the defender has appealed for Guardiola to remain in his current role, while maintaining that his teammates all feel the same way.

He told TNT Sports: “Everyone would love him to stay! He’s a legend, a legend of the football club, legend in football.

“I’ve learnt so much since I’ve come here, so I’d love him to stay. But if that’s not the case then I wish him all the best.”

Guardiola sends a reminder about his contract situation

The media have been pressuring Guardiola to confirm whether he will be the Man City manager next season, and he is never candid about the situation.

Most recently, Guardiola said everyone should know if he is staying or leaving Man City, while bringing up the fact his contract lasts until next summer.

This appears to hint that the manager will indeed be sticking around for one more season, but only time will tell if he really does.

There is clearly a lot of potential for the squad to do big things next year, but then again, a domestic double is not a bad way to end a 10-year tenure.

Now is not the time for the Guardiola conversation

If Guardiola were to confirm his exit, it would make these final two matches very emotional. This is exactly what the Sky Blues will not want.

They need clear heads against Bournemouth and Aston Villa, otherwise the Premier League title race will be well and truly over.

City still have a chance to win the league, but taking six points from their remaining fixtures is pretty much the minimum requirement.

So Guardiola is actually sensible to hold off any announcements regarding his future, as full concentration is required over the course of the next week.
