Erling Haaland has a “dream” of playing in La Liga and could eventually move to Spain after his time at Manchester City, according to transfer journalist Matteo Moretto.
Haaland remains firmly tied to City after signing a contract until 2034, but speculation over where the Norwegian could play later in his career has never completely disappeared. Moretto believes Spain remains firmly in the striker’s thinking, although there is no suggestion a move is currently being discussed.
Moretto makes Haaland La Liga prediction
Speaking to MARCA, Moretto said Haaland has always considered the sporting side carefully when choosing his next destination. He believes La Liga could eventually represent the next stage of the striker’s career.
“Haaland has that dream,” Moretto said, adding that the information reaching him suggests the City forward will end up in Spain “sooner or later”. Moretto did not identify a particular club, leaving open the question of where Haaland could play if he eventually decides to make the move.
Real Madrid and Barcelona would inevitably feature in any discussion about a player of Haaland’s profile, but there is no indication either club is currently negotiating a deal. City are also in a powerful position after the 26-year-old committed his long-term future to the club in January 2025.
That agreement runs until the summer of 2034 and was a major statement from both City and Haaland. The striker spoke at the time about his happiness in Manchester and his desire to continue developing, while the length of the contract means City would retain significant control over any future negotiations.
Moretto’s comments therefore point towards a longer-term ambition rather than an imminent transfer. Haaland may have Spain in mind for another stage of his career, but with almost eight years remaining on his City deal, plenty would have to change before that possibility becomes something more concrete.
