Pep Guardiola highlights how ‘amazing’ Jeremy Doku uses his versatility for Man City

Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Jeremy Doku, pointing out that he is more than just an attacking talent.

Manchester City’s draw with Everton was a huge disappointment, and one which may have cost them the Premier League title.

Nevertheless, it was wonderful to see Jeremy Doku thriving. The Belgium international was unstoppable with his dribbling, drawing fouls throughout the game.

Most importantly, he scored two exceptional goals, one of which helped the Citizens secure a point late into stoppage time.

Jeremy Doku is more than just an attacker

Everyone is talking about Doku’s contributions in the final third, after he tore the Toffees to shreds on Monday night.

However, Pep Guardiola has been keen to recognise how valuable the 23 year old’s all-round game has become to Man City.

Speaking in his press conference ahead of City’s clash with Brentford, Guardiola said: “The manager always. When the player plays good it is thanks to the manager. When they play bad, it is because of them.

“I am so glad. I am so glad that he [Doku] makes this step and an impact, one on one. But not just the goals and assists, he was still pushing defensively. Jeremy has been amazing this season.”

Doku is unstoppable right now

In the past, Doku has been criticised for his lack of end product, particularly when it comes to goalscoring.

Indeed, the winger had only scored one Premier League goal all season before Man City’s trip to Stamford Bridge last month.

Since then, Doku has netted three times, as well as adding a seventh assist to his tally for the campaign.

Doku is fast becoming one of City’s most important creative outlets, and he is clearly putting the work in to develop his overall game.

Doku is a nailed-on starter for Brentford’s visit

Antoine Semenyo played on the left wing more often than not for Bournemouth, but he has largely been pushed to the right since joining Man City.

Phil Foden can also play on the left side, but he has fallen some way behind Doku in the pecking order.

Right now, it is hard to see how Doku could possibly be dropped, as he establishes himself as one of the club’s most influential players.

Brentford will need to be ready, because Doku has the look of a player who can change the game at the flick of a switch.
