Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol return to Man City training ahead of Brentford visit

  • Two Man City players back in training
  • Massive boost for Pep Guardiola
  • Rodri still suffering from injury

Manchester City have received some positive team news ahead of their next Premier League match this Saturday.

Monday was a nightmare for Manchester City, as Arsenal gained a huge advantage in the race for the Premier League title.

The Citizens continued to be without Rodri, and they were clearly missing the presence of their injured defenders.

However, there is finally something to cheer about, as two players are getting closer to making their returns from the sidelines.

Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are back in training

According to Sky Sports, Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol were back on the training pitch ahead of Man City’s clash with Brentford.

Dias has missed four Premier League matches and was unable to participate in the Carabao Cup final due to his second hamstring injury of the season.

Gvardiol has been out for much longer, after suffering a broken tibia against Chelsea back in January.

It is highly unlikely that Gvardiol will have any involvement against Brentford, but Dias could potentially have a spot reserved on the bench.

Rodri is not training with his Man City teammates

Unfortunately, Rodri is not as far on in his process to recovering. The Spaniard arrived at the Etihad Campus after Pep Guardiola’s other players, and he likely took part in an individual session.

Despite Guardiola previously saying Rodri was getting better, he is viewed as a ‘major doubt’ for this Saturday.

In fact, with the 29-year-old still not on the training pitch, there is no guarantee he will be back for Crystal Palace’s midweek visit, or even the FA Cup final.

Man City need defensive options

Although the news about Rodri is frustrating, the nearing return of Dias and Gvardiol is so important after Monday night.

Abdukodir Khusanov and Marc Guehi have both been terrific in recent weeks, but they visibly struggled against Everton.

Guehi was guilty of a shocking misplaced pass to gift the Toffees their opening goal, while Khusanov lost possession which eventually led to Everton’s second.

It is not easy performing week-in, week-out when under so much pressure. Therefore, having experienced alternatives to call on is of great importance.

Dias has been in plenty of title races before, while Gvardiol has won the Premier League with Man City.

Having both centre-backs fit again will be a huge boost for Guardiola, who needs his whole squad to pull together and deliver during these final weeks of the season.

matchday.
