- Bournemouth defeated Arsenal last month
- Allowed Man City to leapfrog Gunners
- Cherries received thank you messages
Bournemouth forward Rayan has spoken about the messages he was sent by Manchester City fans after their victory over Arsenal in April.
Arsenal currently lead the way in the Premier League table, but this is only because Manchester City have played fewer fixtures.
Pep Guardiola’s team did move into first a week and a half ago, after defeating Burnley in a Wednesday night clash at Turf Moor.
However, this would not have been possible had it not been for the previous Saturday, when Bournemouth got the better of Arsenal.
Rayan received messages from Man City fans
After Bournemouth’s 2-1 victory, their players received a number of congratulatory messages on social media from Man City supporters.
This included 19-year-old right winger Rayan, who has detailed how his DMs became flooded with praise.
He told ESPN: “Yes, there was indeed some messages on Instagram from the City fans, thanking us for the victory, especially on the next day when they won against Chelsea, 3-0.
“I think that each victory we get is very important, but we knew the difficulty that the game against Arsenal would have, they are first in the Premier League.”
City need to beat Everton on Monday night
With the Gunners in action on Saturday evening, Man City could trail them by six points by the time they get to play their next match.
This means it is essential that the Citizens keep on winning, as one poor result could be the difference between winning or losing the Premier League title.
Being able to move so far ahead gives Arsenal an advantage, but City are still in a good position to win the title, provided their excellent form continues.
Man City must improve after a nine-day break
In truth, the Sky Blues were far from their best against Burnley. The FA Cup tie against Southampton is less of a concern due to the number of changes made to the starting line-up, but it was still another unconvincing performance.
However, City’s squad have been able to enjoy some time off and regain their energy, which could prove beneficial over the course of the month.
Monday will be interesting in showing whether Man City are back at their best, or if the rest of the season is going to be one big struggle. The club’s supporters will be hoping the former point turns out to be the case.
