  • Bernardo Silva leaving Man City soon
  • Marc Guehi sad to see his new captain go
  • Heaps praise on midfielder

Marc Guehi has waxed lyrical over his new skipper, who will soon be parting ways with Manchester City after a nine-year spell.

Bernardo Silva has had quite the impact at Manchester City over the years and he is clearly influential in the dressing room.

Despite being at City only three months, Marc Guehi has spoken highly of the Portugal international’s quality and leadership.

Unfortunately for the defender, Bernardo Silva is leaving Man City this summer, but he is already looking forward to a potential reunion further down the line.

Marc Guehi praises Bernardo Silva’s greatest attributes

Speaking with Manchester Evening News, Guehi has outlined what it is which makes Silva so special.

The Englishman has highlighted not just how good Silva is on the pitch, but how well he communicates with his teammates.

“He’s probably one of the best players I’ve played with, top three for sure,” Guehi said.

“He’s an incredible leader. How vocal he is actually surprised me because, with someone with his quality, you just feel like he just performs on the pitch and, and leads on the pitch with his performances, but he’s very vocal. He’s really supportive to every single person in the squad.

“It’s not just in key moments, it’s every single day. When you have someone like that, who is the captain, who is the leader and leads by example like that, it’s fantastic. But it’s not just him, it’s so many others in the squad – Rodri, Erling, Ruben, there are so many guys,” he continued.

“Obviously, now we know that he’s leaving, it’s really sad for the football club, but I’ve enjoyed playing with him and hopefully get to play against him, maybe, at some point again in the future.”

Silva will be crucial to a City victory on Monday

Normally Silva partners with Rodri in the Man City midfield, giving them two strong leaders to command and encourage their teammates.

However, this was not the case against Burnley due to the Spaniard picking up an injury, and he will not be fit to face Everton either.

This makes Silva even more important to Pep Guardiola, not only as a world class player, but as a senior member in the squad who has been in this position before.

Man City need all the points they can get and the pressure is very much on, but Silva has shown in the past he can help his team deliver in the biggest moments.

Recently, the 31-year-old has been nothing short of brilliant in the defensive areas, and his impact could prove vital to City claiming three points on Monday.

Guehi will be eyeing the Man City captaincy

Once Silva leaves, Guardiola will be on the hunt for his next captain and Guehi is surely in the running, considering his experience.

The centre-back has already worn the armband at Crystal Palace, leading the club to an FA Cup triumph last season.

Although the Sky Blues may have more senior players who have called the Etihad Stadium their home much longer, Guehi has the attributes required to step up to an even bigger role.
