- Premier League player of the month candidates announced
- Rayan Cherki up for award
- Nico O’Reilly also in contention
Manchester City have had two players nominated for the Premier League player of the month award after what has been a superb month.
March was a difficult period for Manchester City, at least before the Carabao Cup final. From being dumped out of the Champions League to dropping points in the Premier League, there was very little to shout about.
However, April has been far more encouraging, with the Citizens closing the gap on Arsenal and advancing to the FA Cup final.
Indeed, Man City have recorded some excellent results, including victories over Chelsea and Arsenal respectively in the Premier League.
There have been a number of standout performers in the City team, but two in particular have stood out.
Rayan Cherki receives Premier League player of the month nomination
Unsurprisingly, Rayan Cherki is up for the Premier League player of the month award after three matches of pure brilliance.
The playmaker recorded two assists at Stamford Bridge, one of which might just be one of the passes of the season.

He then scored a fabulous goal against Arsenal, casually beating multiple defenders and slotting the ball past David Raya.
Cherki is bringing the excitement back to English football, but he is so much more than just an entertainer.
This is an attacker with a range of technical abilities and at 22 years old, he could become one of the world’s best players.
Nico O’Reilly is battling Cherki for the award
Cherki is not the only star in town, as O’Reilly is another member of the City squad to receive a player of the month nomination.
The Englishman is redefining what it means to be a left-back, as he often makes runs inside and looks to find the net, often with headed efforts.
O’Reilly landed on the scoresheet against Chelsea, arriving in the box in a similar fashion to when he scored his second goal in the Carabao Cup final.
Additionally, the 21-year-old showed his versatility by moving into midfield against Burnley, filling in for the injured Rodri.
The other player of the month candidates are Jarrod Bowen, Morgan Gibbs-White, Pascal Gross, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Noah Okafor and Alex Scott.
Man City have a bright future ahead
The Citizens are going to be busy in the summer transfer window, with stars joining who could become future top class talents.
Elliot Anderson has been heavily linked with Man City, and he is a player who would obviously bring a lot of quality.
However, Pep Guardiola already has an array of talent in his squad, including younger prospects like Cherki and O’Reilly.
If both continue to receive a high amount of playing time, they could each be key to securing City a collection of silverware in the future.
