  • Shortlisted for honour again

Pep Guardiola has been nominated for what could become a second Premier League manager of the month award in the space of three months.

Manchester City have fallen below people’s expectations for much of the season, but this is no longer the case.

The Citizens began to rebuild their Premier League title charge in February, which saw Pep Guardiola named manager of the month for the first time in more than four years.

March was a massive letdown, as City blew their progress with draws against Nottingham Forest and West Ham respectively.

However, they are now within three points of Arsenal, with a game-in-hand at their disposal too after some solid displays in April.

Pep Guardiola receives manager of the month nomination

Thanks to Man City’s improved results, Guardiola has been shortlisted for the Premier League manager of the month award.

The Catalan coach is up against Vitor Pereira, whose Nottingham Forest team recently thrashed Burnley and Sunderland respectively, netting nine goals in the process.

Arne Slot, Andoni Iraola, Daniel Farke and Fabian Hurzeler are also up for the award, alongside Nuno Espirito Santo, who has lifted West Ham out of the relegation zone.

Man City have changed their fortunes in April

Before the month began, the Sky Blues were in a very difficult position. However, a 3-0 win at Chelsea proved highly important after Arsenal lost to Bournemouth.

City continued their momentum with a 2-1 victory over the Gunners, creating the chance to move top of the Premier League table.

This was then accomplished a few days later as Guardiola led his team to a 1-0 triumph against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Arsenal have since re-established their lead after beating Newcastle, but Man City have a game-in-hand to put things right again.

Guardiola has done tremendously well to save City’s season

Not so long ago, Guardiola was coming under a huge amount of pressure from Man City supporters for the way his team were performing.

There was a lot of unrest about the manager’s tactics, with many agreeing his style had become too slow and predictable.

However, the tactical genius has shown he can still deliver results at the top level, especially in matches where the stakes are at their highest.

If City do win the league this season, the fans will have Guardiola to thank, and it would certainly be some way to end his decade-long spell at the club, if he decides to leave of course.
