Micah Richards ‘disappointed’ with Man City’s 1-0 victory against Burnley

  • Micah Richards left underwhelmed

Micah Richards has expressed his disappointment at Manchester City’s result at Turf Moor, despite the fact three points were added to their tally.

The Premier League title race is heating up, with Manchester City moving up to the top spot for the first time since August.

City have been on a brilliant run of form, defeating Chelsea and Arsenal. Now, this has continued with a win over Burnley.

However, the Citizens were unable to strengthen their one-goal advantage, after an early goal scored by Erling Haaland.

This was despite the fact that there were plenty of chances to publish the Clarets, but they were simply not taken.

Micah Richards ‘disappointed’ with Man City’s performance

Man City were able to get the win and Haaland said he was ‘super happy’ after the match. Pep Guardiola was also in high spirits and full of praise for his team.

However, ex-City star Micah Richards was less enthusiastic, as he felt the new league leaders should have won by a greater margin.

“I think mainly just psychologically as well, you’re going into that game, they know they must win, to set up this game essentially today [Wednesday],” Richards told Sky Sports

“It’s so strange that Man City have won the game 1-0, and we’re disappointed it’s only 1-0. But obviously you’ve got to take the whole context into consideration.

“Burnley where they’re at, it could go down to goal difference at the end of the season. And the chances that Man City created, especially in that first half. So, it was just a strange game all-round, but you’re thinking Man City are going to score more goals than one.”

Man City must think bigger

It is all well and good to just focus on winning matches, but Arsenal are level on 70 points with Man City.

Should the Gunners record one or two big victories between now and the end of the season, they could clinch the league title on goal difference.

Therefore, it is important that City focus not merely on collecting three points, but by putting their opponent to the sword.

There is a reason Burnley have been relegated, and they are the type of team who Man City should have been beaten by more than a single goal.

A sign of things to come?

Not so long ago, City recorded some narrow wins against Newcastle and Leeds United respectively. Although they got over the line in those matches, what followed was a draw against Nottingham Forest, and eventually another at West Ham.

This ultimately raises concerns, as the Sky Blues have just scraped two consecutive victories, having looked much better in previous weeks.

Still, it is not like Guardiola’s team failed to create chances. When they next play in the Premier League against Everton, making the most of such opportunities is a must, because this is a season which could see the teams at the top separated by the finest of margins.
