  • Man City are keen on Palmeiras teenager Eduardo Conceicao
  • A host of clubs have entered the race
  • Spanish giants are now favourites to sign him

Manchester City have lost ground in the race to sign Brazilian starlet Eduardo Conceicao, with a La Liga team now emerging as front-runners for the teenager’s signature.

Palmeiras youngster Eduardo Conceicao has already been attracting interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Man City, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle have all held talks with Conceicao, and it was said that City were leading the race to sign him.

The exciting attacking midfielder is the latest graduate of Palmeiras’ esteemed academy, which has also produced the likes of Endrick and former Sky Blues striker Gabriel Jesus.

Manchester City facing major competition for Conceicao

Still just 16, Conceicao is the latest in a long line of Palmeiras youngsters attracting interest from Europe’a elite clubs.

Estevao and Endrick are two recent graduates to make big-money moves. However, with Conceicao not turning 18 until December 2027, and switch to Europe must wait until then.

City have been heavily involved in the race to sign him up to this point, but they are far from the only top club showing significant interest.

Newcastle, Man United and Chelsea are all believed to be keen, while Paris Saint-Germain are also reported to be pursuing the teenager.

However, there is a belief within Barcelona that the Catalan club are now favourites to sign Conceicao, according to TEAMtalk.

Barcelona ready to hijack Man City deal

According to reports, Conceicao’s preferred destination is the Camp Nou, making Barcelona firm favourites the sign the young attacker.

He is yet to make a senior appearance for Palmeiras, but his performances for the under-20s side have impressed enough to make him one of the most sought-after young players on the planet.

Conceicao has been compared to fellow Palmeiras academy graduates Endrick and Estevao, both of whom have gone on to become elite stars.

Barcelona’s history of developing the best young talents in the world will no doubt help their case, but City are not out of the running just yet.

Why Man City should continue to future-proof their squad

Signing a player like Conceicao may not benefit Pep Guerdiola’s side in the short-term, but it would be another shrewd bit of business from the club.

Recent additions such as Sverre Nypan and Claudio Echeverri have shown the Cityzens are prepared to invest in the future, rather than simply sign immediate starters.

If Conceicao can be persuaded to join the Sky Blues, rather than Barcerlona, it would mean another high-potential young future star joining City, one who could go on to become a world-class talent.
