Former Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus hit back at a fan after the Arsenal star was verbally abused during Sunday’s fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

The incident occurred late in the second half as City beat Arsenal 2-1 in the Premier League, with Jesus filmed warming up on the touchline.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta opted not to bring the 29-year-old on against his former club, but that didn’t stop the forward from receiving some verbal taunts from the home crowd.

Jesus, however, responded quickly to put the City fan in his place, reminding him of the six successful seasons he spent at the club.

Premier League footballers are subjected to verbal abuse on a weekly basis, but it’s rare to see a player respond as quickly as Jesus did.

As the striker stretched with his teammates, a fan can be heard shouting: “Judas, what’s the score?!” towards him.

Walking towards the fan filming the altercation, Jesus can be heard responding with “I have won 11 titles here!”

Why Jesus was right to hit back after abuse

Four-time Premier League winner Jesus was an integral part of Pep Guardiola’s squad during his time at the Etihad.

He may have never quite reached the heights many had hoped he would, but the striker netted 95 goals for City in 236 games.

Jesus played a major role in the most successful period in the club’s history, and deserved recognition for his contributions.

Leaving City was the right choice for Jesus

The decision for Jesus to join Arsenal was by no means entirely his own, with Erling Haaland’s long-awaited arrival likely a deciding factor behind the Brazilian’s 2022 departure.

Haaland joined the club that same summer, and City’s pursuit of the Norwegian was publicised long beforehand.

Already a squad player by that stage, Jesus would have been pushed even further down the pecking order had he stayed, and may not have been able to secure a move to another top club.

Joining a direct Premier League rival will always be controversial, but Jesus made the right decision for his career, and City were unlikely to offer him a new deal had he wanted to stay.
