- Man City play Arsenal this afternoon
- One ex-United star backs City to win comfortably
- Another former Red Devil disagrees
Two Manchester United legends are struggling to come to an agreement on whether or not Manchester City will defeat Arsenal in the Premier League.
Manchester City got the better of Arsenal a few weeks ago in the Carabao Cup final, and are looking to do so again on Sunday afternoon.
It is a massive occasion for the Citizens as a victory would place them within three points of the Gunners, with a game-in-hand at their disposal.
City are in better form than their upcoming opponent, which is why a lot of pundits are backing them to overcome the Premier League leaders, including one ex-Man United star.
Paul Scholes backs Man City to beat Arsenal
This week’s episode of Stick to Football saw Paul Scholes preview Man City’s match against Arsenal and he is certain the hosts will secure a victory.
In fact, the retired midfielder is confident that City will not only secure three points, but will completely blow Arsenal away.
He said: “I think City will win easily. Just comfortable. Unless they get someone sent off or something stupid. I think they’ll win comfortably. Two or three [nil].”
Gary Neville disagrees with Scholes
Scholes had a great connection with Gary Neville for both England and Man United during their playing days.
However, the pair are not on the same wavelength in regards to Sunday’s fixture, with Neville backing Arsenal to scrape a draw at the Etihad Stadium.
“Wow,” Neville said in response to the prediction made by his old teammate. “I think it’s going to be a draw on Sunday and I think it’ll be 1-1.”
Man City have done enough in recent weeks to earn Scholes’ approval
Despite the rivalry between Manchester’s two biggest clubs, Scholes clearly has a lot of respect for the Sky Blues, and rightly so.
Pep Guardiola’s side have been phenomenal since the international break, putting both Liverpool and Chelsea to the sword.
City have been electric in attack, with Rayan Cherki in particular delivering some special moments to craft opportunities.
Whereas Arsenal have no imagination and have failed to win three of their four matches in all competitions since their Carabao Cup final defeat.
Therefore, while Scholes may end up being wrong, there is plenty of evidence to suggest he could get this one spot on.
